Q: Bought silver plate for husband

assalam alaikum please answer question from a womens web group jazallah kair. Please let me know if using Silver utensils is haraam for men! I was under a notion that men are banned from using Gold, and Silk only. because once I saw an Arab showing off his car made of pure silver, on TV. Please let me know at the earliest as I guess if silver is banned for men then I have made a big blunder by gifting my husband a silver plate to eat. Its been almost five months now that he`s been using it. I was the culprit to convince him. Please let me know.

All praise be to Allah, and may his peace and blessings be on the last and best prophet and messenger, Muhammad.

Gold and Silver utensils are haram for men and women to eat or drink in them. to keep them is also haram according to the majority.
The Prophet said: “Do not drink from gold or silver utensils nor eat in them, for they are for them (disbelievers) in this life and for you in the hereafter.” (agreed upon)
Men may have silver rings. That is different from the utensils.

Therapeutic massage by female?

I have back pain and have to have Therapeutic massage by licensed therapists. It has no sensual connotation. Most therapists are women. Is it allowed to have it for medical reasons. I understand there used to be women for “khidmat”.

All praise be to Allah, and may his peace and blessings be on the last and best prophet and messenger, Muhammad.

You should do your best in looking for a man, if not, and older woman, if not, which is unlikely, then you should take your wife or someone with you to learn how it is done and do it for you. It is not too hard to learn. Besides, the presence of your wife in the room will prevent the possible khalwah (seclusion with a foreign woman).
You must also be honest with yourself in assessing your need for this modality of therapy.
The women for khidmat you are referring to may have been slave girls, who may touch their masters or hired maids, who may not. The ruling of the slave girls doesn’t apply – obviously – to the physical therapists.

Q: Stopping the Period for Ramadan

assalam alaikum please asnwere following questions raised at womens web site. …………….jazallah kair……………I wanna know that is it permissible to take medicine in order NOT to have PERIODS in RAMADAN.As sometimes it becomes difficult to do the Fasting after Ramadan for the days that were missed in RAMADAN/Hajj bcoz of Periods. So is it a good idea to Stop periods in ramadhaan so that U dont MISS the Fasting especialy when it`s the LAST 10 days:)

All praise be to Allah, and may his peace and blessings be on the last and best prophet and messenger, Muhammad.

It is permissible, though not recommended to stop the period during Ramadan by taking pills. If you encounter difficulty doing it the natural way, then you may take those pills. During hajj, it is permissible since the hardship of having the period during the hajj time is very significant.

Q: How to get a divorce?

Salam aleyom. I`m married to a man who lives in Jordan where our marriage took place. I dont even know if it is legal in the USA. I haven`t seen him since we were married. He has done nothing for me at all. He and his family now make horrible jokes about me, and he accuses me of adultery. He will now take a second wife and never talk to me again he says. I cant go to Jordan and get the divorce, I am afraid for my self there. I agreed to give him back my mahr in exchange for the divorce, but he refuses to unless I pay him for the cost of the wedding, which is unreasonable I feel. I have just given the shahada recently as well in hopes to make him happy..but it did nothing. I dont know what i am suppose to do now. Please help me somehow. Shokran

All praise be to Allah, and may his peace and blessings be on the last and best prophet and messenger, Muhammad.

In principal, these marriages are not recommended because of the cultural differences and lack of commonalities between the bride and groom. At this point, you may go to an imam and ask him to give you khul’, which is like divorce but it involves you giving up the dowry he had given you. In the process of khul’ the imam will attempt to contact your husband.
This is in case you couldn’t prove that he accused you of adultery or mistreated you. If you could prove he did, you will get a divorce from the imam, which means you will keep your dowry.
Islam is more valuable than any gains you could have had in your life. If you converted for him, make sure your conversion is now for God.
Don’t regret your encounter with that man if it was your gate to accept Islam, for that is the greatest success, and it is worth all the hardship you may have encountered.

Q: Can I hold a Quran in which there are translations of the ayaat also for tilawat?

All praise be to Allah, and may his peace and blessings be on the last and best prophet and messenger, Muhammad.

Tilawat al-Quran must be done in Arabic. It is permissible and encouraged to read the translation outside the prayer.
Inside the prayer, you may hold the Quran and make tilawat of the Arabic and look at the translation, to understand what you are reading, without speaking any words in the foreign language.
